Global Export Controls Network (GECP)
We are delighted to announce that the Export Controls Australia Group (ECAG) has been awarded a major grant under the 2025 Strategic Policy Grants Program (SPGP) by the Australian Department of Defence.
Our initiative, the Global Export Controls Network (GECP), was selected from among 188 applications across 110 organisations-marking a significant achievement and national recognition of ECAG’s leadership in the export controls sector.

What is GECP?
The Global Export Controls Network is a two-year professional development and policy engagement initiative aimed at strengthening Australia’s export control capabilities and supporting the objectives of AUKUS and the 2024 National Defence Strategy.

Key features include:
-
Targeted Talent Development: A competitive national intake of 12 early to mid-career professionals per year (per cohort) from government, industry, and academia.
-
Quarterly Roundtables & Workshops: Held in Adelaide and Sydney, featuring international and domestic experts, with scenario-based policy exercises.
-
Global Engagement: Visiting experts from the U.S. and U.K., cross-border dialogue, and opportunities for participants to publish or present in international forums.
-
Strategic Focus: Topics span AUKUS reforms, non-proliferation, dual-use technologies, and emerging geopolitical drivers shaping export controls.

Why it Matters
GECP directly supports Australia's ambition to build a more integrated industrial base with key allies and to grow a skilled cohort of Australian experts capable of navigating complex technology-sharing environments. The program helps ensure Australia remains a trusted partner in the evolving global defence and security landscape.

What’s Next
Program delivery begins in early 2026, and we’ll soon be opening expressions of interest for the inaugural GECP cohort. We look forward to partnering across the ecosystem to deliver this initiative and elevate Australia’s voice in global export controls.
