Export Controls Australia Group (ECAG) is excited to share this event that marks a significant advancement in the defence export controls landscape between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. As part of the AUKUS agreement, representatives from these nations will discuss a new trilateral licence-free environment designed to streamline defence exports and collaborations.


This informative session, hosted by AMDA Online, will provide exclusive insights from high-level officials across the Australian Department of Defence, UK Ministry of Defence, US Department of State, US Department of Defense, and US Department of Commerce. They will delve into the nuances of the new policies and exemptions that are poised to reshape how defence-related technologies and services are exchanged among these allied nations.

"AMDA Online will be hosting representatives from the Australian Department of Defence, UK Ministry of Defence, US Department of State, US Department of Defense and US Department of Commerce to present on the new AUKUS trilateral licence-free environment for defence exports.

 

This will include detailed presentations and insightful discussions about:

  • Australia’s national exemption for the UK and US provided under the Defence Trade Controls Amendment Act 2024;

  • The UK’s national exemption for Australia and the US provided under its draft AUKUS Open General Export Licence; and

  • The US’ national exemption for Australia and the UK from the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulations.

 

This event is designed to offer the industry, higher education and research sectors – the ones utilising these exemptions – with the knowledge and practical understanding of the new legislation and exemptions. With trilateral consultation of each partner’s exemptions underway until 31 May 2024, it will also facilitate meaningful discussion and consultation with stakeholders to gain insights into their interests and concerns, and ensure the licence-free environment is fit-for-purpose.

 

 

We will be hosting a briefing which will be open for industry and academia to attend. The briefing will be held in Adelaide on 20 May and in Sydney on 21 May 2024. There is also the option to attend the briefings online.
